Bird Shipping & Safety

Safe Transportation. Healthy Birds. Happy Homes. At Hapners Parrot Farmhouse, the health and safety of every bird is our highest priority. We take careful steps to ensure that parrots are properly prepared and transported as safely and comfortably as possible

1. Safe Bird Transportation

Every bird is carefully prepared for transportation before leaving our care.

Depending on the destination and transportation method, we may use appropriate:

  • Travel carriers

  • Food and hydration arrangements

  • Temperature and weather considerations

  • Required health documentation

  • Identification information

  • Transportation and delivery coordination

Our goal is to minimize stress and provide a safe journey from our farmhouse to the bird’s new home.

2. Shipping Availability

Bird shipping availability depends on:

  • Destination

  • Bird species

  • Weather conditions

  • Transportation availability

  • Applicable federal, state, and local regulations

  • Required veterinary or health documentation

Not every bird can be shipped to every destination.

Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery information and informing us of any applicable restrictions or requirements at their destination.

3. Weather Safety

We carefully monitor weather conditions before transportation.

Extreme heat, extreme cold, storms, airline disruptions, or other unsafe conditions may result in a shipment being postponed.

We will always prioritize the safety of the bird over meeting a specific delivery date.

A weather-related delay does not necessarily constitute a cancellation or refund when reasonable measures are being taken to protect the bird.

4. Health Before Transportation

Birds should be healthy and fit for transportation before leaving our care.

When required, appropriate veterinary examinations, health certificates, testing, or other documentation may be obtained before transportation.

If a bird develops a health concern before its scheduled departure, we may postpone transportation until it is considered appropriate to proceed.

5. Preparing Your Home

Before your parrot arrives, we recommend preparing:

  • A clean and secure cage

  • Fresh food and clean drinking water

  • Appropriate perches

  • Safe toys and enrichment

  • A quiet area for initial adjustment

  • Species-appropriate food

  • A safe temperature-controlled environment

Allow your new bird time to settle into its surroundings. Moving to a new home can be stressful, and patience during the adjustment period is important.

6. Arrival & Inspection

Customers should be available to receive their bird when delivery is scheduled.

Upon arrival, carefully check the bird and allow it to rest in its prepared environment.

If you believe there is an immediate problem with the bird’s condition upon arrival, contact Hapners Parrot Farmhouse promptly and, when appropriate, seek assistance from an avian veterinarian.

Photographs or other documentation may be requested when investigating a transportation-related concern.

7. Transportation Delays

Estimated delivery dates and times are not guaranteed.

Transportation may be delayed because of:

  • Weather

  • Airline or transporter scheduling

  • Mechanical problems

  • Regulatory requirements

  • Health concerns

  • Unexpected transportation disruptions

We will communicate significant changes to the customer as soon as reasonably possible.

8. Customer Responsibilities

Once a bird has been safely transferred to the customer or the customer’s authorized representative, the customer assumes responsibility for its ongoing care.

This includes appropriate:

  • Nutrition

  • Housing

  • Temperature

  • Hygiene

  • Socialization

  • Exercise and enrichment

Customers should establish a relationship with a qualified avian veterinarian and seek professional veterinary attention whenever their bird appears ill or injured.

9. Legal & Regulatory Requirements

Bird transportation may be subject to federal, state, local, airline, and international requirements.

Some species and destinations may require additional permits, health certificates, testing, quarantine, or other documentation.

Hapners Parrot Farmhouse will provide or coordinate documentation that is required from us when applicable. Customers are responsible for providing accurate destination information and complying with requirements applicable to their ownership or destination.

For U.S. transactions, certain commercial bird sellers and transportation activities may also be subject to animal-welfare requirements administered by USDA APHIS.
